Meet Dr. Monika Sharma

Clinical Psychologist | Hypnotherapist | Life Coach

Helping clients througout 41

My Story

I’ve always known I was meant to help people. As a teenager, I volunteered anywhere I could. In college, I studied psychology and pre-med, drawn to the simple truth that at our core, every one of us longs to be seen, heard, and valued just as we are. Becoming a clinical psychologist was a natural extension of that calling.

Over the years, my work expanded. When I founded a group psychotherapy practice in Chicago, I wasn’t just helping clients—I was also nurturing my employees’ growth. And when I became a solo mom by choice in 2014, that commitment to growth and care deepened exponentially.

My life felt electric with purpose… Until it didn’t.

The pandemic pushed us all into isolation. Insurance audits drained energy and focus. Burnout spread like wildfire through the mental health field. In 2021, I unexpectedly lost my beloved clinical director who was also a dear friend. And by early 2022, my entire team resigned. As the practice owner, urgent employee recruiter, supervisor, single mother, and everyone’s financial caretaker, I couldn’t step away. I kept pushing—until I had nothing left.

I was underwater, gasping for air. Fighting. Struggling. Drowning. And eventually, I had to make the hardest decision of my professional life… I had to get out of the water.

So I shut down my practice. Just like that.

That ending, as painful as it was, became a beginning.

I turned inward. I grieved, rested, and began to rebuild—not just my career, but my self. I appreciated my daughter’s magnificence once again, reconnected with simple pleasures such as reading fiction and cooking, and engaged with activities and people that truly filled my soul.

Most importantly, I reconnected with my “why”: knowing people long to be seen and to be heard, and wanting you to see that you do deeply matter.

Today, that is the heart of my practice. I work with entrepreneurs, midlife professionals, parents, and women navigating new chapters to help you:

Find clarity about what makes your soul feel alive.
Trust your inner wisdom rather than defaulting to outside persuasions.
Break free from old beliefs that your worth is measured only by your achievements or other people’s opinions of you.
Strengthen supportive relationships with your people, your village. Because we heal not alone but in community with the synergy of others

My journey through burnout and back taught me this: Protecting your purpose and reclaiming your vitality is not only possible but necessary.

Because you can’t pour from an empty cup.

This is the space I hold for my clients. A space to rediscover yourself, to breathe again, to trust in yourself, and to step forward with courage into your second half of life.

I work with entrepreneurs, leaders, midlife adults, parents, and single women who have a quiet restlessness to discover what their soul longs for and the courage to pursue it.

Why I Do This Work

Therapy with me isn’t just about “fixing” problems — it’s about creating a safe space where we can explore what’s no longer working, what’s trying to emerge, and what healing might look like for you.

This means learning to tune out the cacophony of noise around us — including well-meaning advice from people we know to social media, ads, and the news which are trying to make money off our yearnings, fear, and attention — and tune in to our own truths… our bodies’ signals and wisdom, our life circumstances, our future aspirations, our religious beliefs or spiritual philophy, our multi-faceted identities, and our intuition.

No two people’s circumstances are exactly the same. It would be my honor to meet you where you’re at, learn about who you uniquely are, and be a support in your self-discovery.

My approach to Therapy

My work is:

  • Collaborative – You’re the expert on your life. I bring tools, perspective, and presence.

  • Compassionate – No judgment. No pressure. Just a space to be real.

  • Trust-driven – I help you trust in your body’s wisdom and in what you’re capable of–which is oh so much!

  • Integrative – I blend evidence-based practices with mind-body approaches, including CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and clinical hypnosis.

Whether we’re unpacking burnout, processing grief, navigating a life change, or working through trauma — we’ll go there gently, with curiosity and care.
